Priority 1
Transforming life chances through skills, education and training
Learning Strategy (2007 – 2008) Closed Project
To increase access to skills and training through expanded and integrated learning provision across the city, pooling resources aligned to ‘Team Peterborough’.
PCAE (2007 – 2009) Closed Project
Establishing new vocational learning facilities located at the Peterborough College of Adult Education. The facility provides a resource for the delivery of construction and catering training to equip targeted groups with vocational employment skills in sectors offering significant employment opportunities.
Learning Communities (2007 – 2011)
Expanded delivery of the Learning Communities project to provide increased support to develop the skills for employability required among targeted groups, including lone parents.
Working 4 U (2009 – 20011)
The creation of a presence and direct relationship with residents in target areas to help them take their first steps towards employment through confidence building and training opportunities. The main objectives are to: Move unemployed people closed to the labour market by improving their employability, Improve confidence and skills, raise aspirations and address inequalities in Peterborough.
Priority 2
Creating pathways to sustainable employability and employment
ACE (2007 – 2009) Closed Project
Activity supports economically inactive people in returning to employment, increasing the low economic activity rates of targeted groups through establishing the Job Centre Plus ‘Pathways to Employment’ initiative targeted mainly at those on incapacity benefit.
New Arrivals/New Link (2007 – 2010)
Support to sustain and develop the work of the New Link Centre to achieve the increased integration of migrant workers within Peterborough. In particular, the project will enable those with higher level skills to access and contribute to the Peterborough economy.
The Recognition Centre (2007 – 2011)
To build a sustainable centre, run by a multi-agency partnership headed by NHS Peterborough. The centre would act as a physical hub from which to deliver integrated support services to adults facing chronic exclusion. This is a core element of the Connected Care Model which aims to address the fact that people with the most complex needs are failed by isolated provision.
Employment Up Skilling (2009 – 2011)
A two element project, both aimed at improving employability for unemployed people in Peterborough, as well as those at risk of redundancy. The first project would place people in volunteering positions, helping them discover new sectors of work, develop new skills and explore new jobs. The second would be a job club providing opportunities for the unemployed to meet and share information and experience, learn and support each other, and access experts’ advice
Priority 3
Developing economic potential through entrepreneurship (start-ups, self-employment and social enterprise) and investment
Peterborough BEAT (2007 – 2011)
To provide enterprise assistance such as:
- working with those from deprived or under-represented groups to consider starting their own business;
- helping small businesses enhance their ability to trade outside their immediate area;
- promoting innovation and creativity; and
- encouraging inter-trading between local businesses of all sizes.
PEP Exchange (2007 – 2008) Closed Project
Delivery of the BizFizz and STEPS programmes to reinvigorate local economies by working within communities to help people realise their enterprise potential will be supported. This model has been identified as an effective way of encouraging and enabling entrepreneurial activity, focusing on start-ups, micro and small enterprises for entrepreneurs. The programme will be targeted in areas experiencing economic disadvantage to support local economic renewal.
Peterborough Enterprise Coaching (2009-2011)
Delivery of enterprise coaching to reinvigorate local economies by working within communities to help people realise their enterprise potential will be supported. The framework has been identified as an effective way of encouraging and enabling entrepreneurial activity, focusing on start-ups, micro and small enterprises for entrepreneurs. The programme will be targeted in areas experiencing economic disadvantage to support local economic renewal
Peterborough Women’s Business Centre (2009-2011)
The Women’s Business Centre (WBC) is one of 3 pilots to be launched in the country, targeting females aspiring to start in business. The project involves both capital and revenue components; the first stage is based on the development of a physical hub, designed in accordance with enterprise-related needs. Upon completion of the building, the project will carry out multiple enterprise-oriented tasks in order to attract, assist and generate potential female entrepreneurs and businesses
