Business

Put simply, Peterborough cannot achieve the ambition set out in the Sustainable Community Strategy without the contribution of the private sector.

Most significantly our growth ambitions are dependent on a successful, vibrant and diverse business community that creates jobs and wealth and delivers the investment that is required to regenerate our local infrastructure.

But we also need the business community to be engaged in the whole Community Strategy. Whether it is through the training they can deliver to their workforce; through their commitment to promoting healthy workplaces or to combatting climate change, local businesses are at the heart of our agenda.

The GPP's Growth Partnership brings together members of the business community and the public sector agencies that support economic development and enterprise, including Opportunity Peterborough, the East of England Development Agency, Job Centre Plus, Business Link and the various training providers. The partnership meets quarterly. For more details click here.

In recent years Peterborough's economy has grown significantly, with one survey listing the city as one of the growth hotspots of the country. But since summer 2007 Peterborough has lost several thousand jobs. The GPP's work now is focused on ensuring that the various public services that can support business during this time are working closely together to provide a joined up approach to meeting the downturn. GPP has created a guide to publically funded national and local organisations providing business support services. Click here for further information.
