Peterborough Secondary Schools Review
The Voyager School
Significant progress is being made on the new school set to replace both Walton and Bretton Woods schools. The coeducational and multi-ethnic community comprehensive school will specialise in media arts and will boast flexible state of the art facilities catering for 1,675 students between the ages of 11 and 19. Due to open its doors in September 2007, the school has appointed a new Head Teacher, Hugh Howe MBE. Along with fellow Head Teachers Roy Duncan (Jack Hunt) and David McPartlin (Ken Stimpson), Mr Howe has already taken steps to address the concerns of Peterborough’s parents by speaking at several information evenings during September. The Thomas Deacon Academy
A new school is being built on the Deacon’s School site for 2,200 pupils to replace Deacon’s and John Mansfield Schools as well as Hereward Community College. The school, scheduled to open in September 2007, is sponsored by the Thomas Deacon Trust at Perkins Engines, Peterborough City Council and DfES. The school will specialise in maths and science and will offer excellent sports and arts facilities, as well as being remarkable in terms of its pastoral care. In order to ensure that all of its 2,200 students receive the highest standard of support and guidance, the Academy will be divided into 6 colleges of 370 students. For more information please go to

Peterborough Secondary Schools Review
Peterborough City Council is working to improve education standards and facilities across the city so that our children can reach their full potential and gain valuable qualifications and life skills for a brighter future. The City has received £164 million in funding for the modernisation and improvement of Peterborough’s secondary schools, and work has now begun with the construction of the new Voyager School and the Thomas Deacon Academy. In addition to this, significant work will be carried out on existing schools to update and improve the facilities available. For more information on this, please go to

Online school admissions
It has recently become possible for Peterborough parents to apply for their children’s primary or secondary school places online for the academic year commencing September 2007. It is hoped that this will prove popular as it will inevitably make applying for school places much quicker and easier. To find out more, please go to
