Peterborough – aspiring Environment Capital
Great Fen Project
The Great Fen Project will restore over 3,000 hectares of farmland located between Huntingdon and Peterborough to fenland wildlife habitat. President of the Great Fen Project, actor Stephen Fry, has said that he is “very proud to be involved with a new drive to protect, understand and evangelise this unique part of our country” and is sure to be able to raise awareness of the project and, it is hoped, attract funding. The project is extremely ambitious, and aims to combine nature conservation and management with tourism and other income-generating activities. The Great Fen will become an area rich in wildlife with numerous opportunities for traditional Fen recreational activities such as boating, angling and even skating.
