Bretton 2010 – New Partnership for Regeneration
A new partnership and forum for the regeneration of the Bretton area has been set up by Julian Stanley, Chair of the Culture, Leisure and Tourism branch of the Greater Peterborough Partnership. The partnership aims to produce plans for the regeneration of Bretton based on discussion with members of the community and representatives of local businesses and public sectors. The partnership will meet 6 times per year, and agendas, minutes and supporting documents will be made available via this website.
Rural Working Group – Working for the future of rural communities
The aim of the Rural Working Group (RWG) is, as part of the community strategy, to identify the key issues to ensure an improved quality of life in rural as well as urban areas of Peterborough. The RWG aims to ensure that the voice of those living in rural areas is heard during the continuing development and regeneration of Peterborough. This is to be achieved by communicating with Parish Councils to ensure and protect the future of rural communities, and recent roadshows in Barnack and Castor have enabled local residents to have their say in the development of Peterborough and the surrounding villages and rural areas.
Peterborough Community Church
The construction of a new Peterborough Community Church has recently been completed in Parnwell. The new purpose built centre will seat 1,800 people and will offer services and a variety of community activities. The £5 million ‘superchurch’ will also include a vast auditorium, meeting rooms, teaching areas, a dedicated youth zone, children’s crèche, dining room and office space. There was a church warming event in September, and the formal opening ceremony will take place between 15 - 17 December. For more details please go to http://www.pcc-uk.org
Greater Dogsthorpe Partnership (GDP)
The GDP has been set up in order to ‘improve the quality of life for people living in disadvantaged neighbourhoods and to ensure that service providers are more responsive to neighbourhood needs and improve their delivery’. The project is partially funded by a £1.6 million grant from the Safer & Stronger Communities Fund (Neighbourhood Element), and this money will be spent on the regeneration of Dogsthorpe and the similarly deprived immediately adjacent areas of Park and North Wards. A neighbourhood partnership has been formed with representatives from the local community, ward councillors and service providers from both the statutory and voluntary & community sectors, and Adrian Chapman has been appointed Neighbourhood Director. A new logo for the project has been devised based on the designs of Melissa Patterson, a Year 13 pupil at the John Mansfield School. To see the design click here.
Peterborough Green Grid
The Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) is working with local organisations including Peterborough City Council, English Nature, The Countryside Agency, Forestry Commission and the Environment Agency in order to improve and maintain the network of green open spaces in the Peterborough area. The plans aim to improve the quality of life of Peterborough residents, act as a model for the growth of sustainable communities, support initiatives contributing to sustainable resource management and enhance and create opportunities for Peterborough to attract tourists. The numerous potential benefits of this scheme include improvements in the economy, health and quality of life, biodiversity and planning. This scheme is essential to support the forecast expansion of Peterborough as it will maintain and enhance quality of life of both people and wildlife and ensure that the green spaces in and around Peterborough remain accessible to residents for recreational purposes and are constantly maintained and improved. For more information on this project please go to http://www.pect.net/green_grid.html
South Peterborough Green Parks
South Peterborough Green Parks is a project designed to identify and create green spaces for the use of people living to the south of Peterborough and to help protect wildlife. The aim is to create an area where natural conservation, history, culture and recreation is integrated in a sustainable way with planned development. This will be achieved by linking Hampton Nature Reserve and the Nene Washes, both areas recognised as internationally important for wildlife, by creating a series of high quality interconnecting green spaces. As well as creating new green spaces and maintaining existing areas, the project aims to encourage people to learn about, experience and enjoy green spaces in their area. The benefits of the project are twofold, improving the quality of life of Peterborough’s residents and protecting wildlife.
