Rural Working Group (RWG)Peterborough is poised and ready to enter a period of substantial growth for the third time in its history.
The Community Strategy for Peterborough sets out a vision for a bigger and better Peterborough and outlines the plan for the future of our city and the surrounding villages and rural areas. It also sets the direction for all those involved in the development of Peterborough: whether they are public, private and voluntary organisations or community groups.
Engagement We want to ensure that the rural voice is heard in the development of the city; to support you in identifying and communicating your needs and vision for your community. Change is happening and we want to give you the opportunity to ensure that the rural communities remain the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the city. Rural Working Group workshops - July 2007 The Rural Working Group ran roadshows in 2006 to engage the rural communities in the growth of Peterborough. The findings from these meetings created a rural vision and strategy. The rural vision and strategy will be met through four aspects: rural housing, economy, access and transport and environment. The Rural Working Group hosted a series of workshops in July 2007 to develop innovative partnership solutions in these four areas and to draw on best practice across the country. To view these solutions follow this link (to be added shortly) What next? Moving forward, we must consider all solutions and develop the ones we feel best address issues in the rural vision and strategy.
Ideas? The plan is to refine the solutions/ project ideas to a workable, achievable number. We should be seeking to cover each aspect of the vision and strategy (Environment, Access and Transport, Economy and Housing). The Steering Group will identify projects the RWG can assist/ accomplish in the short term and others we can help initiate in the long term.
The Rural Working Group will take into consideration: 1) How well does it address the rural vision and strategy? 2) Practicality of taking forward- how achievable? (cost/ resource) Results? The adopted solutions will be relayed back to attendees of the workshops and Parish Councils.
