Growing the right way: West of Peterborough
Peterborough City Council intends to ensure that it has a city wide regeneration strategy to guide investment and funding over the next 5 - 10 years.
This strategy will help to shape the way all services are delivered and will be informed by parish plans, village design etc. Also, through events to engage with local people and stakeholders.
So far, strategies have been completed in the South and the West. More information on events in the North and the East will be published in due course.

Bretton Community Plan
Bretton residents took part in a consultation and the results have now been published. Outcomes were themed around attractive and accessible communities, business growth, community cohesion and community safety, culture, leisure, tourism, sporting attractions and life long learning.
Bretton Centre
Revitalisation of the Bretton Centre is a major priority for the City Council.
The new shops and other changes will provide much needed safe and attractive
facilities for Bretton residents and will help re-establish the Centre at
the heart of the Bretton Township. Planning permission has been granted
for the re-development of the Bretton Centre.
Permission has been given for eight new shops, ranging in size from 1,500
square feet to 20,000 square feet and the refurbishment of three existing
properties. There will also be a new takeaway, changes to the car park and
an improved northern entrance to the Cresset.
Fashion Retailer Next will be one of the retailers moving in to the new
shops.
Catalyst Capital is the property developer appointed to carry out the phased
redevelopment at the Centre. They intend to start building works in August
and have the entire development completed by Summer 2006. There will be
some disruption as the development progresses but hopefully customers will
bear with Catalyst during this time.
Bretton given £20,000 grants
Peterborough City Council has given North Bretton and South Bretton £10,000 each to spend on updating existing facilities or creating a new project (providing there are no long term costs involved.) Ward councillors will consult with their constituents on how the money will be spent. A date for this consultation has not been set yet.
Bretton Woods School Site
As you will be aware Bretton Woods School is due to close in September 2007. The future of the site is still unknown but an independent consultant has been appointed to study the site and make recommendations.
The Cresset
A feasibility study is underway at the moment to determine the future of the Cresset, more information, when appropriate, will be available on this website.

The Trust are currently focusing on developing the Drop In Shop as a ‘neighbourhood learning facility’.
The Peterborough Innovation Centre
The Peterborough Innovation Centre presents an opportunity to galvanise high growth small businesses in the city. With the desire to create growth and generate new jobs, the proposed Innovation Centre will add increased value to Peterborough’s credentials as a growing economy and heighten awareness of growth in key sectors, for example, the environment sector. The Innovation Centre has been an aspiration of a number of private sector interests in the city for a number of years, with a local steering group supporting the development of the project. It is due to open towards the end of 2007.
